NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT CHAIR
Pace University seeks an educational leader who will coordinate the work of departmental faculty and staff of the School of Education in keeping with the academic standards, purposes, and policies of the University. The Department Chair works closely with faculty and administration to implement the strategic plans of the School and University.
For over forty years, Pace University’s School of Education has prepared students to not only meet the requirements for teaching certification, but also be agents of change committed to student success and lifelong learning. A fundamental aim in education is to create opportunities for individuals to realize their potential within a democratic community. Therefore, the School of Education prepares graduates to be reflective practitioners who promote justice, create caring classrooms and school communities, and enable all students to be successful learners.
The Department Chair reports to the Associate Dean, School of Education and supervises the work of the Director of Student Support Services, the Director of School Partnerships, and departmental support staff. The Chair also coordinates the work of program coordinators and faculty. The Chair has extensive interactions with others within the University including staff in registration, scheduling, and admissions. In addition, the Chair is an integral member of the School of Education’s Leadership Team.
This position begins on August 1, 2010 and is an 11-month per year commitment with a two-course teaching load per academic year. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Essential responsibilities of the Department Chair include monitoring the departmental budget, leading department meetings, preparing course and faculty schedules, coordinating departmental support staff, responding to faculty and student concerns, assisting in the recruitment of new faculty, and reviewing and responding to student course evaluations and annual faculty reviews.
Applicants must hold a doctorate degree in education or related fields and have a strong background in teacher education and distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, and academic leadership experience. Applicants must be tenure eligible at the associate or full-professor rank.

METROPOLITAN COLLEGE OF NEW YORK
Assistant Professor in Childhood Education (start date: January 2010)*
MCNY is searching for a full-time faculty member to teach graduate courses and supervise student teachers in the accelerated 12-month MSED program in childhood education (grades 1-6). Additional responsibilities include engaging in scholarly and professional activities; performing college and department service including being assigned responsibilities to assist in the coordination of programs; assisting with NCATE accreditation reviews and new program development; participating in new student recruitment, application and admissions processes; developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with public school professionals; and seeking out and applying for grants. Metropolitan College of New York faculty members share a commitment to the performance-based Purpose-Centered Education model. They are expected to unite classroom theory with real-world practice and enthusiastically participate in development of a unique educational philosophy.
Qualifications_: Earned doctorate in elementary education or a closely related field. Consideration will be given to ABD candidates in the dissertation/defense stage. Minimum of three years classroom teaching experience as a certified elementary school teacher. Preferred qualifications include college and public school teaching experience in urban settings with diverse populations of children; skill in the use of technology to support teaching and learning, and an established scholarly record. Inclusive Childhood Education: The Department of Inclusive Childhood Education is strengthening its commitment to preparing pre-service and in-service teachers for effective instruction of all students; addressing the unique needs of students of diverse ability, culture, race, language, and socioeconomic status with an emphasis on inclusive education. Two tenure-track positions at the assistant level position in the Department of Inclusive Childhood Education within the School of Education have been established for the 2010-2011 academic year. An earned doctorate in Education is required (ABD will be considered), with content focus in mathematics, science, language arts or social studies education. Candidates must also have experience in preK-6 early childhood and/or childhood educational settings, including a teaching certificate. Candidates must be able to contribute to an inclusive cross-disciplinary model and be able to collaborate with urban, suburban, and rural school communities.
